A tragic plane crash in Russia’s far east has claimed the lives of all passengers and crew on board an Angara Airlines An-24 aircraft. The flight, which was en route from Blagoveshchensk to Tynda, lost contact with radar during its landing approach near Tynda, Amur region, on Thursday.

What We Know So Far

  • According to TASS, 43 passengers, including five children, and six crew members have died in the crash.
  • Crew error during landing in poor visibility conditions is suspected as the primary cause, as per preliminary investigations.
  • The aircraft’s wreckage was discovered 16 km from Tynda, on a forested mountainside, after intense search operations hindered by dense taiga and marshy terrain.
  • No distress signals were reported before the plane vanished from radar.

Official Statements & Investigation

Amur regional governor Vasily Orlov confirmed that emergency teams were immediately dispatched after the plane went missing. “All necessary forces and means have been deployed to search for the plane,” he said on Telegram.

The Russian Emergencies Ministry reported slightly lower passenger figures—40 passengers (including two children) and six crew members—though the governor’s office cited 43 passengers.

A criminal case has been opened under Article 263, part 3 of the Russian criminal code, which addresses violations of air traffic safety rules causing multiple fatalities. The airline underwent its last inspection by Rostransnadzor in July 2025.
